Movies made on Kauai

Kauai’s resume of blockbuster movies stands alone among the tropical locations of the world. Just six hours from the west coast, it’s easy to see why Kauai has served as Hollywood’s tropical back lot since “White Heat” was first filmed here in 1933.

The Kauai Movie Book

The Kauai Movie Book

From commercials to blockbuster films, discover why Kauai is one of Hollywood’s favorite tropical locations.

The allure of Kauai and its long history as a movie location are captured in a 128 page coffee table book produced by the Wilcox Hospital Foundation with assistance from the Kauai Film Commission. Written by Chris Cook and photographed by David Boynton, the book was published by Mutual Publishing of Honolulu in November of 1996. It is organized geographically and covers everything from blockbusters like South Pacific, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Jurassic Park to documentaries, foreign films, and surfing movies.

See the movie sites before and during filming; read about the directors, movie stars, and the local heroes who have made Kauai such a popular filming location for so many years. This fascinating and beautiful book includes a guide to movie locations, at-a-glance movie facts, and over 300 full-color photographs.
